How do you open a Demat account in Zerodha? Sign up on zerodha.com or the Kite app, verify your mobile and email with OTP, enter your PAN and Aadhaar for KYC through DigiLocker, link your bank account, complete in-person video verification, and e-sign the forms with Aadhaar. The process is fully paperless and usually takes around 48 hours. There is no minimum balance requirement.

Step-by-step: opening a Zerodha Demat account online

  1. Go to zerodha.com to sign up, or download the Kite app.
  2. Enter your mobile number, get the OTP, and verify.
  3. Enter your email ID and confirm with OTP.
  4. Provide your PAN and date of birth.
  5. Select the trading segments you want (Equity, F&O, Currency, Commodity, and more).
  6. Complete Aadhaar KYC through DigiLocker and OTP.
  7. Fill in personal and bank details via UPI or manual entry.
  8. Complete in-person verification (IPV) by recording a short live video.
  9. Upload your signature and, if required, income or bank proof.
  10. Add a nominee if you wish, then e-sign the forms with Aadhaar and start trading.

How long does Zerodha take to open a Demat account? Around 48 working hours after you complete the online application, e-sign the forms, and receive your login details by email.

Can NRI investors open a Zerodha Demat account online? Yes, but the process differs. NRIs need an NRI trading and Demat account linked to a PIS or NRO account.

Can I open more than one Zerodha Demat account? No. You cannot open more than one individual Demat account with Zerodha using the same PAN.

To open a Zerodha Demat account online, you need:

  • PAN card
  • Aadhaar card linked with your mobile number for OTP verification
  • Cancelled cheque or bank statement to link your bank account
  • Income proof, only if you want to trade Futures and Options

Can I open a Zerodha Demat account without a PAN card? No. A PAN card is mandatory for all Demat and trading accounts in India.

Can I open a Zerodha account without a bank account? No. A bank account is required for fund transfers and withdrawals.

Can I open a Zerodha account with my mobile number only? Yes, but only if your Aadhaar is linked to that mobile number, since it is needed for OTP verification.

Can I e-sign without Aadhaar? Yes. You can use a Virtual ID generated from the UIDAI portal instead of your Aadhaar number to complete the e-sign process.

  • Currency futures: 0.03% or ₹20 per order, whichever is lower
  • Currency options: ₹20 per order

  • Commodity options: ₹20 per order
  • MTF brokerage: 0.3% or ₹20 per order, whichever is lower
  • MTF pledge or unpledge: ₹15 + GST per ISIN per request
