Spreadex

UK spread-betting & CFD broker · Est. 1999 · Regulation checked: September 2026

TC RATING

Score in progress

We’ve verified Spreadex’s regulation and record

✔
Spreadex is authorised and regulated by the FCA (FRN 190941), with spread-betting client funds held in a segregated account at a named UK bank under FCA client-money rules.
✔
The firm has operated since 1999 and displays a clear 61% retail loss warning.
✔
Crypto trading is restricted to professional clients, and there is no inactivity fee.
✔
The main concern is that Spreadex operates both a financial trading business and a Gambling Commission-regulated betting business under the same company and login. The Financial Ombudsman and Gambling Commission have both documented cases involving gambling-related harm crossing between these areas.
✔
The Gambling Commission also fined Spreadex £2,022,000 in 2025 for AML and social-responsibility failures. The action was a repeat of enforcement action taken in 2022.

It is a long-established, FCA-regulated UK broker with genuine client-money protections, but there is one serious, well-documented concern about how it has treated at-risk customers across its gambling and trading arms. We have not yet completed our full 50-point TC Rating.

Is Spreadex safe and legit?

Spreadex Limited is a long-established UK company, incorporated in 1999 and authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under FRN 190941.

For financial trading, Spreadex keeps client money separate under FCA client-money rules and states that spread-betting funds are held in a segregated account with Barclays Bank plc. Its sports and casino betting services are separately licensed by the Gambling Commission.

Both businesses operate under the same legal entity, making the relationship between gambling and financial trading important to understand.

There is also a documented area of concern.

2025 and 2022 Gambling Commission action: The Gambling Commission fined Spreadex £2,022,000 in 2025 for AML and social-responsibility failures, following a £1.36 million penalty in 2022 for similar failures.

Financial Ombudsman Service: Separately, the Financial Ombudsman Service upheld a complaint involving gambling-related harm connected with a customer’s financial trading account.

These records do not mean Spreadex’s FCA-regulated trading service is unauthorised. They do, however, make the link between its gambling andThese records do not mean Spreadex’s FCA-regulated trading service is unauthorised. They do, however, make the link between its gambling and trading businesses an important factor for customers to understand.

Spreadex for beginners: Is it suitable?

Spreadex may suit beginners who want to try UK spread betting or CFD trading through an established FCA-regulated broker.

However, these are leveraged products and can result in significant losses. Beginners should understand how spread betting and CFDs work before trading and consider using the platform’s available tools to familiarise themselves with the process.

Who is Spreadex best for?

Spreadex may suit:

  • UK traders interested in spread betting or CFDs
  • Traders who want an established FCA-regulated firm
  • Traders who prefer tax-efficient UK spread betting
  • Users who want a proprietary platform plus TradingView
  • Traders who do not want an inactivity fee

Who should avoid Spreadex?

  • Traders who specifically need MT4 or MT5
  • Traders who prefer a financial trading firm without a gambling business
  • Anyone who recognises they may be vulnerable to gambling-related harm, given the documented crossover between Spreadex’s betting and trading services

Editor-in-Chief’s Note – Sasitharan Kumar

Spread betting sits in two worlds. It is a leveraged financial product, but legally it is also a bet. Spreadex offers both gambling and financial trading under one login. From experience, that combination needs extra attention, and here the concern is documented that a regulator and the Financial Ombudsman Service both recorded a customer moving between the two areas while showing signs of gambling-related harm. Spreadex is an established FCA-regulated broker, but this is important to understand before funding an account.

Conclusion

Spreadex is a long-established FCA-regulated UK broker with segregated client money and a proprietary platform plus TradingView. However, the Financial Ombudsman Service and Gambling Commission have both documented concerns involving gambling-related harm crossing between its betting and trading services. For traders considering Spreadex, understanding this history is an important part of making an informed decision.

Pro Tip

If you use both betting and trading services with the same provider, set clear limits for yourself. Before depositing, check the FCA Register and confirm FRN 190941, as several clone sites have used the Spreadex brand.
