Zerodha vs HDFC Securities: which is better? Zerodha is a low-cost discount broker suited to DIY traders and cost-conscious investors, while HDFC Securities is a full-service broker suited to those who want research, advisory, and in-person support. Both are SEBI-regulated. This comparison covers brokerage, platforms, products, and support.

Brokerage and fees

  • Zerodha brokerage: ₹0 for equity delivery. ₹20 or 0.03% per order for intraday, F&O, and currency. Commodity at ₹20 per order.
  • Zerodha margin funding: available under SEBI rules, currently around 18% p.a. on utilised funds, mainly for options writing with collateral.
  • Zerodha leverage: up to 5x for intraday under SEBI rules.
  • HDFC Securities AMC: typically ₹750 a year, varying by plan.

There is no fixed daily turnover limit on Zerodha; it depends on your available margin and risk checks.

Platforms and user experience

Zerodha runs on Kite (web and mobile), which is fast and lightweight, with Console for reports and Coin for direct mutual fund investing. It offers commodity trading through MCX, but no direct international market access (only via partner tie-ups).

HDFC Securities offers digital account opening in 1 to 2 days for most users, with apps on both iOS and Android, and the backing of a full-service brokerage.

Investment products

Zerodha offers equity, F&O, commodities, currencies, direct mutual funds, bonds, and IPOs, and supports joint Demat accounts.

HDFC Securities supports NRI accounts for investing in India and offers robo-advisory through its financial planning tools, alongside its wider full-service product range.

Support and security

Both brokers use 2FA login, encryption, and regular compliance checks. HDFC Securities offers phone, email, live chat, and branch-network support. Zerodha offers support during market hours but not 24/7. Both are SEBI-regulated and operate under strict guidelines, making them safe for beginners within India.

Conclusion

Both Zerodha and HDFC Securities are strong, SEBI-regulated options. Choose Zerodha if you want low brokerage, tech-driven platforms, and cost-effective DIY investing. Choose HDFC Securities if you prefer a full-service broker with a wider product range, in-person assistance, and NRI services. The right choice depends on whether low-cost DIY trading or full-service, advisory-led investing suits you better.
